What we do

Predicting the genetic risk

Founded in 2012, our company develops algorithms capable of predicting the genetic risk of developing serious fibroses, responsible for almost 1 in 2 deaths by illness, in developed countries.

These predictive models have been developed by a team of researchers at INSERM, whose genetic expertise is recognised worldwide, and which represents our current scientific team

Predictive models

Every predictive model is developed based on a multitude of DNA markers, more precisely genetic mutations (polymorphisms), present in our genome.

The World of healthcare is entering in a revolution

The world of healthcare is entering in a revolution that is even more far-reaching that than brought about the emergence of antibiotics : the switch from the quantified self to the qualified self, which has arisen, at least in part, from the in-depth knowledge that xe have today of our genome.

Therapies are becoming inscreasingly effective – but the cost is high, thus restructing accessibility tu treatments as well as limiting reimbursements from public and private inssurance. As such, prevention « naturally » becomes a major social health issue.

Fibrosis

THE TERM "FIBROSIS" DESCRIBES THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN EXCESS OF FIBROUS CONJUNCTIVE TISSUE AS A REPARATIVE RESPONSE TO AN INFLAMMATION.

When fibrosis is produced in response to a wound, the term ‘‘scar’’ is used. The development of fibrosis can be observed in any organ in the human body. Fibrosis is the base of numerous serious diseases which make up a list of 30 long-term illnesses that require prolonged treatment as well as particularly costly therapy, and for which preventative medicine would be a reasonable solution.

Our predictive tools

Skin

Fibrosis is an abnormally high accumulation of fibrous connective tissue in a tissue or an organ. When this occurs on the skin, we use the term “keloid” or “hypertrophic” scar. Genetic predispositions to keloid scars are well known and established and will be the object of a genetic test from October 2018.

Liver

under development - Fibrosis is an abnormally high accumulation of fibrous connective tissue in a tissue or an organ. When this occurs in the liver, we called this “cirrhosis”, which is common result of chronic diseases of the liver such as NASH, hepatic B and C viruses, alcoholism or Bilharzia. Its progression can lead to cirrhosis.

Kidney

anticipated – Fibrosis is an abnormally high accumulation of fibrous connective tissue in a tissue or organ, resulting in the organ’s loss of function. In relation to the kidney, we call this “renal fibrosis”.

Myocardial

anticipated – Fibrosis is an abnormally high accumulation of fibrous connective tissue in a tissue or organ, resulting in the organ’s loss of function. In relation to the heart, we call this “cardiac fibrosis”.

Pulmonary

anticipated - Fibrosis is an abnormally high accumulation of fibrous connective tissue in a tissue or organ, resulting in the organ’s loss of function. When this occurs in the lungs, we call this “pulmonary fibrosis”.

The predictive tools offered by BILHI Genetics allow the people concerned to make changes in their behaviour and hygiene very early, and thus reduce the risk of developing a serious illness.
